Feeding Centers Open in Ethiopia
Under, or out of Control?
To the surprise of many in Parliament - and outside of it - although Simon could be vindicated, Minister Addisu reiterated this phrase. His motive in making such an outrageous statement is apparent: the less people understand about the causes and consequences of the drought, the less they are likely to question the double-digit economic growth that the government has been bragging about in the past five years, in the face of this catastrophe. Its boast, however, has not been endorsed by the low and middle class populace of this poverty-stricken nation who question the very meaning of growth in light of the continual suffering of the majority.

FOOD SECURITY UPDATE
The food security situation in SNNP, Somali, Eastern Oromiya and certain areas of Amhara regions continues to be of great concern.
Failed leadership, not a failed state
For all these reasons I am not about to join the conga-line of critics who see us on the brink of disaster. We do not have a “failed state”. What we have are failed and failing leaders. We have citizens who have failed their children, who manufactured criminals in their homes. The nation is riddled with white collar criminals who feel they are several cuts above bandits and murderers.
Who was Bashai Awalom?
For most people of this and even the previous generation the name Bashai Awalom might not be one readily recognized, but the man was a key figure in Ethiopian history during the war against the Italian Invasion of Ethiopia of 1896.

The Connection
When you are bitten by a snake (Issaias), you cannot go to a charlatan or a quack doctor, because he/she can do more harm than good. Instead you have to cauterize the infected part on place and hunt the snake so that it does not bite anyone anymore. You have to search after it, dig it out from its holes (trenches) and give it a crack on the head never to appear again.

Peasant Revolution in Ethiopia: The Tigray People's Liberation Front, 1975-1991 (African Studies)
Almost unnoticed, in the wake of the overthrow of Emperor Haile-Selassie, the coming to power of the military, and the ongoing independence struggle in Eritrea, a band of students launched an insurrection from the northern Ethiopian province of Tigray. Calling themselves the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), they built close relations with Tigray's poverty-stricken peasants and on this basis liberated the province in 1989, and formed an ethnic-based coalition of opposition forces that assumed state power in 1991. This book chronicles that history and focuses in particular on the relationship of the revolutionaries with Ethiopia's peasants.

Openness and good governance, Ethiopian case By By Equar D. Negash
We all remembered what was happened hours after The Hague based Ethio-Eritrea border commission decided on border lines. Mr. Suyme Mesfin told Ethiopian people that it was decided in favor of Ethiopia. Latter, they told us, without official acknowledgement, it was a mistake. We had seen such inconsistency in trying to demarcate the Ethio-Eritrea border after the war. How do we trust the government again in this issue?

RPT-FEATURE-High food prices, drought threaten Ethiopia again
"Our animals are dying," he said. "And for us that means we must be ready to die."
Local doctors have already reported more than 400 children suffering from malnutrition, and the U.N. children's agency UNICEF estimates that 126,000 children are severely malnourished. Only 33,000 are receiving treatment because of what aid workers say is a lack of money.
"We are having a drought in many parts of Ethiopia," UNICEF's Ethiopia country director Bjorn Lungvist told Reuters. "And we have rising food prices compounding the problem. This global situation has affected the U.N. World Food Programme's ability to help."
